Select, Pan and Pen — the Main Tools
Understand the core toolbar tools and when to use each one.
TL;DR
Three core toolbar tools do most of the work: Select (V) to tap and edit things, Pan/Hand (H) to move around the page, and Pen to draw and write by hand. The same toolbar also holds Text, Eraser, Highlighter, Insert, AI Study, and shapes.
The toolbar sits at the bottom of the canvas. Three tools do most of the work, and switching between them changes how you interact with the page.
- —Select (the arrow, shortcut V) — this is your "mouse". Use it to tap things, pick them up, move them, resize them, and edit them. Choose it whenever you want to interact with something rather than draw.
- —Pan / Hand (shortcut H) — your "move" tool. Drag to move around the page or canvas without changing anything. Handy when you are zoomed in. You can also pinch or scroll to move around.
- —Pen — draw and write by hand directly on the page.
The same toolbar also holds Text (T), Eraser (E), Highlighter (I), Insert (+), AI Study, and a More (⋯) button for shapes.
On phones, to save space the Pan and Eraser tools live inside the More (⋯) button rather than on the main toolbar.
